TOYS!

There are some very nice toys out there on the market today. The accuracy far exceeds anything in the toy category from when I was a kid. I do remember seeing some great looking GI Joe - type figures - Action Man I think there were called - in different WWII uniforms. At the time they were rather out of my price league! What makes these vehicles toys rather than models is that they are mass produced, usually screwed together so you will see obvious join lines, and of course any small detail will be added in soft plastic often rather crudely glued in place. However, if you really want to play with these things that's not a bad thing!

1/32 Panther II
This came from KB toys, and cost a whole $7! This came in a light grey so I repainted it. Overall dimensions look good. Machine gun was missing from the front so I draped a "tarp" over where it should be. The headlight is rather crude and the tow cables are incorrectly placed low on the fenders. On the other hand it is quite recognizable for what it is and the commander looks OK too! I added the decals on this one.

M25 Chaffee from 21st Century. Accurate outline but ugly join lines! Armed with same basic gun as the Sherman. Replaced the old M3/M5 light tanks.

Firefly IC from 21st Century. Firefly IC is based on the M4 chassis. Front MG (correctly) blanked off. Stowage box added to turret rear.

1/32 Sherman M4A3 Forces of Valor, though I bought the Wal-Mart repack! M5 Light tank 21st Century toys. Very impressive with only the plastic antennae showing it as a toy. The commander pose looks very realistic. US M18 Tank destroyer from 21st Century toys.

Marder III, 21st Century. Some grime on the wheels via some printing process. Very nice effort from 21st Century - don't you miss them? I added a crew from quickly painted Tamiya figures as the back looked too empty.
